We have been looking at books this week and talking about our favourite book characters. The children all enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day on Thursday and there were some amazing costumes!
In our morning sessions we looked at the stories ‘Jumblebum/Room on the Broom/We’re going on a bear hunt/What the Ladybird Heard’ and took part in lots a book related activities. A giant Jumblebum is now installed at preschool – take a look in our gallery to see it. The children were excited on Tuesday to find a bear (having a picnic) in the woodland area of school, as they used their imagination to act out the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ – there were a lot of shots of “again, again, lets do it again” (after the second time around) – so we might be going out in search of bears again soon!
Our book scavenger hunt and book character quiz got the children working in teams to find out about books and answer questions about the characters from some our favourite stories.
In our afternoon sessions we explored the story ‘Superworm’ and made our own wriggly worms from clay, looked under the logs to find some real worms and looked at worms/insects in our tough tray set up – take a look at your tapestry account to see the pictures. We also decorated book marks to take home and put in our favourite books.
We enjoyed sharing stories brought in from home with the children – some of them new to the teachers.
Next week: we will be exploring feelings and kindness.
