In our morning sessions this week we have been exploring ‘Road Safety’. The children have practised walking across a zebra crossing and learnt the rhyme: “Stop, look and listen, before you cross the street, Use your eyes, use your ears, before you use your feet”.

They have thought about traffic light colours and what they mean to both cars and pedestrians. They made their own traffic lights and took part in an adult led activity to point out hazards in a picture for pedestrians. We have also been talking about the importance of staying with our adults and holding hands – not only when we are crossing roads, but to keep us safe when we are out and about.

In our afternoon sessions we have been balancing scales and demonstrating our number knowledge. We have used scales and frogs to count, match quantity and recognise numbers from 1-10 and beyond. We used balls to count and add them to a giant tube in group time. Outside we have begun to role play and talk about road safety, ready to develop this knowledge further in our morning sessions.

We have listened to a range of stories and taken part in tumble tots action songs. We also got to try out a skateboard!

Next week: school role play. We will be thinking about going to school and practising a school day routine to help us get ready. AM children only – please bring in shorts and a t-shirt for our PE role play.

In our afternoon sessions we will be reading the story ‘Our House’ and learning about kind words/sharing and positive relationships with all of our friends at preschool.
